Mitigating Math Anxiety with Playful Learning Experiences

Math anxiety holds too many young minds back. In Britain, 1 in 8 children aged 8-10 struggle with confidence in math, often seeing it as rigid and intimidating. But what if math felt more like play? To help shift perceptions and introduce new audiences to better math habits, Duolingo needed a solution that made math feel less like a challenge and more like an adventure. Enter Duolingo: Blipped—a conceptual gamified brand activation designed to destigmatise math through physical play. By taking the principles of Duolingo: Math beyond the screen and into a hands-on, immersive space, we can transform the way children engage with numbers.

This vision comes to life as a touring installation that turns problem-solving into an experience worth exploring. A space where math is no longer a source of anxiety but an open-ended puzzle waiting to be solved. Here, every challenge is an chance to see numbers in a new light. Playful, interactive, and dynamic, Blipped invites children to experience math as it should be—engaging, rewarding, and full of possibility.
